The Problem
Packaging Is the Last Salesperson Before Purchase. Most UAE Brands Underinvest in It.
You have invested in your product. But when that product sits on a shelf in a Dubai supermarket or arrives in an e-commerce box, the packaging is the first, and often only, thing a buyer judges. Weak packaging signals a weak product. UAE consumers in retail environments like Carrefour, Lulu Hypermarket and Spinneys have high visual expectations.
-
01
Your Packaging Does Not Match the Quality of What Is Inside the Box
If the packaging looks low-cost, the product inside is judged by it before it is opened. In a UAE retail environment where shelf space is competitive, packaging that does not reflect product quality loses the sale before the customer picks it up.
-
02
Your Labels Do Not Meet Arabic Labelling Requirements for UAE Distribution
The UAE requires bilingual Arabic and English labelling across food, beverage, health, and cosmetic categories. Labels missing mandatory Arabic text, correct nutritional panel format, or allergen declarations will not pass distributor or retailer checks.
-
03
Your Dieline Is Not Production-Ready and Has Cost You a Reprint
A dieline built without knowledge of board weight, material type, and printing method will fail at production. The result is a reprint, a delay, and a cost that exceeds the original design fee, usually right before a launch deadline.
Packaging is the last salesperson before purchase. Most UAE brands underinvest in it.
Run this checklist on your current packaging before your next retail meeting
- Correct Arabic labelling, not machine translated
- Dieline built to manufacturer specification
- UAE retail compliance (Carrefour, Lulu, Spinneys)
- Print-ready PDF/X-1a file, 300 DPI, CMYK
- Halal symbol, net weight, expiry format correct
- 3D mockup reviewed before production begins
What Packaging Design Actually Means
What Is Packaging Design? What UAE Businesses Need Before Going to Production
Professional packaging design covers three connected disciplines: structural design (the dieline), graphic design (brand communication), and compliance design (mandatory labelling required by law). A finished packaging design project produces files a manufacturer can take directly to press.
Packaging design is the process of creating a product's structural form, visual identity and technical specifications. It covers three connected disciplines: structural design (the dieline), graphic design (brand communication), and compliance design (mandatory labelling). A finished project delivers files a manufacturer can take directly to production.
UAE packaging design differs from Europe, the US or South Asia: ESMA sets labelling standards, Dubai Municipality issues separate food and cosmetic guidelines, and free zone resale requires compliant documentation. Sustainable and eco-friendly packaging is increasingly required too, as Dubai's single-use plastics ban phases in through 2026. Brands working from visual mockups alone often discover these requirements only after production, when a distributor or import officer flags the problem.
At Crafixx, we have designed packaging for Dubai and UAE brands for 17+ years, across food, beverage, cosmetics, retail, gift and specialty categories. Every brief becomes a complete production-ready package, technical files, language variants and compliance elements included, not just an attractive image of a box.

Tools & Deliverables
How We Produce Packaging Design. Tools, Formats and File Deliverables
Every packaging project at Crafixx produces files in the format your manufacturer and printer need. We work in professional design software and deliver production-standard output, not consumer-grade image exports.
Adobe Illustrator
Dieline & ArtworkUsed for: All dieline production, vector artwork and press-ready AI file delivery
All dielines and packaging artwork at Crafixx are built in Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator produces the precise vector paths that define cut lines, fold lines, perforation lines and glue areas in the format all professional printers and die-cutting facilities require. Artwork is placed on a locked dieline layer so the structural specification and the graphic design are separated. We deliver packaged AI and PDF files with embedded fonts and linked images resolved.
Adobe Photoshop
Surface DesignUsed for: Photography compositing, texture work and high-resolution raster imagery at 300 DPI
Photography, texture work, gradient blends and detailed product imagery used in packaging are built and retouched in Adobe Photoshop at 300 DPI minimum, the resolution required for commercial packaging print. We work in CMYK colour mode as standard, with spot colour callouts (Pantone) provided where required by the printer. For foil, emboss and special finish elements, we produce separate spot colour layers labelled to industry convention.
3D Mockup Rendering
Pre-Production PreviewUsed for: Client approval, presentations and e-commerce imagery before print production
Before a packaging design goes to print, clients need to see how it will look on the actual product, filled, lit and in a retail environment. We produce 3D photorealistic mockups of every packaging design: boxes as assembled, bottles labelled and shelf-staged, pouches filled and standing. These mockups serve as client approval visuals, internal presentation assets and supplier briefing images. They catch visual errors at zero cost before production starts.
Print-Ready PDF
Production OutputUsed for: Commercial printing in UAE and internationally — offset, digital and flexographic
The final file set for every packaging project includes a press-ready PDF to ISO 15930-4 (PDF/X-1a) standard, the format required by commercial printers for offset, digital and flexographic printing. Files are delivered with correct bleed (typically 3mm), crop marks, colour bars and printing notes. We also include a print specification document naming substrate, finish, special processes and colour references so your printer can quote accurately.
What You Receive
What You Receive. Packaging Design Deliverables from Crafixx
Every packaging design engagement at Crafixx produces a complete set of files. You do not receive a visual proof and have to source the technical files separately. Everything is delivered together.
Structural Dieline
Foundation FileIncluded: Every project — manufacturer-ready dieline with locked structural layer
The dieline is the flat structural template of your packaging, cut lines, fold lines, glue flap positions and perforation marks, built to your manufacturer's exact board specification. Delivered as a layered Adobe Illustrator file with the structural lines on a locked layer separate from the artwork. This is the most important technical file in your packaging project and we build it to production standard.
Artwork Files
English VersionIncluded: All panels at production scale — front, back, top, bottom and sides
The primary packaging artwork in Adobe Illustrator and PDF format: front panel, back panel, top, bottom and all side panels at full production scale. Text is outlined, images are embedded, colours are defined in CMYK with Pantone references. All elements are within the safe zone defined by the dieline.
Arabic Version
Bilingual ComplianceIncluded: Full RTL Arabic typesetting — integrated into layout, not overlaid
A complete Arabic-language version of all mandatory label text, product name, ingredient list, instructions, regulatory declarations, net weight, country of origin, contact details and compliance marks, typeset in correct right-to-left Arabic typography. The Arabic version is integrated into the full artwork layout, not added as a text layer over the English design.
3D Product Mockup
Client Approval AssetIncluded: Photorealistic render — product filled, lit and shelf-staged
A photorealistic 3D render of the final packaging design on the actual product form, box assembled, bottle labelled, pouch filled and standing. Delivered in high-resolution JPG for presentations and PNG with transparent background for digital use. Used for client approval, internal review, e-commerce product imagery staging, and investor or distributor presentations.
Brand Style Sheet
Brand ConsistencyIncluded: CMYK / Pantone / HEX palette, typography specs and logo usage rules
A single-page PDF documenting the packaging colour palette (CMYK, Pantone, HEX), typography (font name, weight, size), logo usage rules within the packaging layout, and pattern or texture elements. This ensures any future extension of the packaging range stays visually consistent with the approved design system.
Print Spec Document
Printer BriefIncluded: Substrate, finish, special processes and colour references — ready to quote
A one-page production brief for your printer or manufacturer: substrate type, print method, finish, special processes and colour call-outs (CMYK + Pantone by panel). This document means your printer does not have to guess at specifications, and your quotes across multiple vendors are compared on the same basis.
Press-Ready PDF
Goes to PressIncluded: Bleed set, crop marks, CMYK confirmed, fonts embedded, 300 DPI minimum
The production PDF derived from the artwork file: bleed applied, crop marks set, colour mode confirmed as CMYK, fonts embedded, images at 300 DPI minimum. This file can be sent to any commercial printer in the UAE or internationally without modification. It is the file that goes to press.
Source Files
Editable MastersIncluded: Layered AI + PSD with all linked assets and fonts — yours to keep
The editable, layered source files for all packaging artwork. Adobe Illustrator files for all vector elements and dieline, Adobe Photoshop files for any raster artwork or photography compositing. Source files are packaged with linked assets and fonts. These files are yours to retain for future modifications, resizing for new formats, colour variants or season updates. We do not withhold source files on completed projects.

Our Process
How Crafixx Designs Packaging. From Brief to Production Files
Every packaging project at Crafixx follows a structured six-step process: dieline first, then visual design, then Arabic and compliance review, then production file delivery. This sequence prevents the most common packaging mistakes.
We begin every packaging project with a structured brief: product category, target retail environment, packaging format, material specification from your manufacturer, compliance requirements and brand guidelines. The dieline structure is established before any visual design begins, this sequence prevents the most common packaging mistake, which is designing visually before the structure is technically defined.
Based on the brief, we develop two to three design directions, distinct visual approaches that interpret your brand positioning for your specific packaging format and retail environment. Each concept is presented as a 3D mockup on the product form, not as a flat artwork view, so you can evaluate it the way your customer will experience it.
Once a concept direction is approved, we build the full packaging design across all panels and surfaces: front, back, sides, top, bottom, interior where applicable. All brand elements, compliance information, photography, typography and structural guides are placed at this stage. We work at final print scale throughout.
With the English design approved, we prepare the Arabic version. Arabic typography is right-to-left, occupies different physical space to the English equivalent, and has its own typographic conventions. We set the Arabic text from scratch for the packaging layout, review all mandatory UAE labelling elements against the applicable regulatory framework, and flag any compliance gaps before production.
After the full bilingual design is complete, we present the packaging for client review with two structured revision rounds included in the project scope. Revisions are specific and documented, we do not work from verbal feedback. Each revision round is presented as an updated 3D mockup alongside a comparison panel.
On approval, we package and deliver the complete production file set: dieline AI file, artwork AI files, Arabic version, press-ready PDF, 3D mockup renders, print specification document and source files. We also provide a short production handover note explaining what each file is, which file goes to the printer, and what to confirm with each party before production begins.

Questions About Packaging Design in Dubai
Ask Us Anything!
A dieline is the flat structural template of your packaging, a technical drawing that shows exactly where the packaging is cut, where it folds, where glue is applied, and where perforations run. Every packaging format, a box, a pouch, a sleeve, a tube, has its own dieline. Without a correct dieline built to your manufacturer's specifications, artwork cannot be placed accurately and the final production run will not assemble correctly. Every packaging project at Crafixx begins with dieline construction, not visual design.
A print-ready file meets the technical specifications a commercial printer needs to go directly to press without corrections. This means: artwork is in CMYK colour mode (not RGB), images are at 300 DPI minimum, fonts are embedded or outlined, bleed is applied (typically 3mm beyond the trim edge), crop marks are set, and the file is saved in the correct format (PDF/X-1a for most offset and digital print). Files that are not print-ready require correction by the printer's prepress team, which adds cost, time and the risk of errors introduced by a third party. All files from Crafixx are print-ready on delivery.
Yes. The UAE requires Arabic labelling across food, beverage, cosmetics, health products and most consumer goods sold in the country. The requirement covers the product name, ingredient or content declarations, instructions for use, country of origin, manufacturer contact information, net weight and expiry date. The Arabic text must meet minimum type size requirements set by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) and product category-specific regulations. Products that do not meet Arabic labelling requirements can be refused entry at UAE customs or rejected by retail distributors. We include Arabic labelling in all packaging projects as standard.
Carrefour UAE requires suppliers to meet a specific set of packaging standards before a product can be listed. These include: a compliant barcode (EAN-13 or GS1 DataBar) placed within the specified location on the primary packaging, Arabic and English labelling meeting UAE standards, shelf-ready secondary packaging that allows the tray to be placed directly on the shelf without unpacking, minimum packaging dimensions for planogram fitting, and for food products, full nutritional information in the format required by Dubai Municipality. We design packaging with Carrefour listing requirements in mind for clients who are actively pursuing UAE retail distribution.
We manage the complete Arabic labelling process. For clients who provide their ingredient lists, regulatory declarations and product copy in English, we work with professional translation and Arabic typesetting to produce the final Arabic label text. This is not machine translation applied as a text layer. We set Arabic type from scratch within the packaging layout, accounting for right-to-left direction, correct character spacing, diacritics where required, and the minimum point sizes that UAE regulations mandate for different label elements. The Arabic version is an integral part of the packaging design, not a modification added at the end.
Yes. Dubai Municipality issues specific labelling and packaging requirements for food products sold within the emirate, separate from and additional to federal ESMA standards. These cover allergen declaration format, halal certification display, nutritional information table format, storage instruction placement, and the format for best-before and expiry date declarations. We are familiar with these requirements and include the relevant compliance elements in food packaging projects as part of the initial design brief, not as a compliance check at the end.
Cosmetic packaging in the UAE is regulated by ESMA standard UAE.S/GSO 1943:2009 (Gulf Cooperation Council harmonised cosmetics standard) and by Dubai Municipality for products sold in the emirate. Required label elements include: product name, INCI ingredient list in descending order, country of manufacture, manufacturer or distributor contact details, net content, period after opening (PAO symbol), batch code and any required warnings. All text must appear in Arabic and English. We include all of these elements in cosmetic packaging projects and provide the INCI Arabic typesetting as part of the scope.
Yes. We produce 3D photorealistic mockups of every packaging design before production files are released. The 3D mockup shows the packaging as it will appear in use, a box assembled and closed, a bottle labelled and filled, a pouch standing and sealed. This is the approval stage for the visual design. It allows you to evaluate the packaging the way your end customer will experience it, and to catch any visual issue, colour balance, type size, graphic weight, logo placement, before the design goes to press. We also provide these mockups as high-resolution assets for your e-commerce listings, distributor presentations, and social media content.
Our standard packaging design scope includes two structured revision rounds after the initial concept presentation. A revision round means you receive the updated design as a 3D mockup with changes documented against your feedback, not a verbal confirmation that changes were made. Two rounds is sufficient for the majority of packaging projects when the brief is clearly defined at the start. If additional revision rounds are needed beyond scope, we quote and agree these in advance. We do not limit minor corrections, our revision policy applies to design direction changes, not to factual corrections.
Packaging design pricing in Dubai varies based on the complexity of the format, the number of SKUs or variants being designed, the compliance requirements for the product category, and whether Arabic labelling typesetting is included. A single product label design differs significantly in scope from a full retail carton with dieline, bilingual labelling, 3D mockup and print-ready file set. At Crafixx, we quote packaging projects based on a detailed brief, not a fixed price list, because the actual scope of work varies too much between projects to be fairly priced without understanding your product, format and requirements. Contact us with your brief and we will send a specific proposal.
Yes, and this is a common brief we receive. Brands that have had products rejected by a UAE retailer, held at customs, or flagged by a distributor for labelling non-compliance bring us their existing packaging for audit and redesign. We identify the specific compliance gaps, propose the corrective design changes required, and deliver the updated production-ready files. Where the original dieline is structurally sound, we can often work from the existing structure. Where the original files are not production-quality, we rebuild from scratch.
We do not have a minimum order quantity for design services. We work on single-SKU projects, one product, one packaging format, as well as full product range projects covering ten or more SKUs across multiple formats. For very small projects (a single label design with no dieline requirement, for example), the scope and pricing reflect the actual work involved. For larger projects with multiple formats, variants, language versions and compliance requirements, we scope and quote the full project. There is no minimum spend threshold to work with us.
Yes. E-commerce packaging for Amazon.ae and Noon has specific requirements beyond retail shelf packaging. Amazon.ae requires FBA-compliant labelling including FNSKU barcodes, suffocation warning labels for polybags above a minimum size, and specific packaging strength requirements for storage in fulfilment centres. Noon has its own seller packaging guidelines for products shipped through NowNoon fulfilment. We are familiar with both platforms' requirements and can design packaging that meets fulfilment centre standards while maintaining the brand presentation your customers expect.
Timeline depends on the scope of the project. A single-product label design with no dieline and no 3D mockup can be completed in five to seven working days. A full packaging project, product box with dieline, front and back artwork, bilingual labels, 3D mockup and print-ready file delivery, typically takes twelve to eighteen working days from a confirmed brief. Projects that require compliance documentation review, custom structural dieline development, or multiple SKU variants take longer. We set timelines based on the specific brief at the start of the project and confirm the timeline before work begins.
To begin a packaging design project, we need: the product name and category, the packaging format you have chosen (or want guidance on choosing), your existing brand assets (logo, brand guidelines, colour palette) if they exist, the quantity and variants you are designing for (sizes, flavours, product lines), your manufacturer's dieline or material specification if you have one, any regulatory category information you already have (ESMA registration, halal certificate, etc.), and the UAE retail environment or distribution channel the product is targeting. If you do not have all of this ready, we can begin with what you have and gather the remaining information during the brief process.
