The Problem
Poor Signage Costs You Footfall Before a Customer Even Walks In
In the UAE, signage is the first touchpoint, before the website, before the call, before the pitch. A shopfront that looks misaligned, a wayfinding board that confuses, or a file rejected by the fabricator on the day of installation are not minor inconveniences. They cost money, time, and reputation. Most signage problems start not at the printer but at the design stage.
-
01
Your Signage Does Not Match Your Brand
Businesses whose shopfront was designed by the fabricator rather than a brand-aligned designer, resulting in a sign that carries the name but not the identity.
-
02
Language Versions Are Not Balanced
UAE businesses with multi-language signage where one script was treated as secondary, causing visual imbalance and inconsistent brand perception across audiences.
-
03
Your Files Are Not Ready for Fabrication
Projects delayed because artwork was approved as a PDF but the fabricator needs vector files, material dimensions, and DM-compliant drawings for permit submission.
Good signage starts at the brief stage, not at the fabricator.
Run this checklist on your current signage before your next installation
- Files delivered in editable vector format (AI or CDR)
- All fonts converted to outlines
- Dimensions annotated in millimetres
- Pantone or RAL colour codes specified
- All scripts balanced at equal visual weight
- DM or mall management submission package prepared
What Is Signage Design
What UAE Businesses Need Before Going to Fabrication
Good signage design starts before any artwork is opened. The brief must capture the location and viewing distance, the materials the fabricator intends to use, whether the signage is illuminated or non-illuminated, the landlord or authority whose approval is required, and the timeline from design to installation. Without this information, a designer is creating art, not signage.
In Dubai and across the UAE, signage design is also a regulatory matter: Dubai Municipality (DM) governs outdoor signage approvals, mall management bodies have their own brand compliance requirements, and Free Zone authorities have dimensional and language rules that vary by location. Designing without this knowledge produces artwork that fails at submission.
The output of a signage design project is a set of production files, typically in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW, with all fonts converted to outlines, all dimensions stated in millimetres, all colours referenced in Pantone or RAL codes, and all elements separated by layer for the fabricator's production team. In the UAE, where installation timelines are tight and landlord submission windows are narrow, the wrong file format means a missed window, and in retail, a missed mall opening window can mean weeks of lost revenue.

Materials & Fabrication Methods We Work With
Material choice determines cost, durability, and how the sign reads day and night. We specify based on your location, budget, and illumination requirement.
Acrylic & Backlit Panels
Illuminated ShopfrontsBest for: Retail and F&B shopfronts that need to glow after dark
Backlit acrylic panels and LED-lit signboards are designed with the fabricator's illumination module layout and back-box specification in mind, so the sign is built to glow evenly with no hot spots or shadowing across the face.
Vinyl & Print Wraps
Vehicle & Window GraphicsBest for: Fleet branding and window graphics
Vehicle wrap and window graphic files are built using accurate contour templates, with all elements positioned to avoid seams, curves, door handles, and windows, delivered in the format the wrap applicator requires with bleed and panel splits specified.
3D LED Channel Letters
Day and Night VisibilityBest for: Premium shopfront branding that needs to read after dark
3D LED channel letter designs include letter profiles, back-box specifications, and LED module configuration notes so the fabricator has a complete production brief, no back-and-forth on how the letters are meant to be built.
Weatherproof Outdoor Materials
Built for UAE ClimateBest for: Outdoor signage exposed to heat, humidity, and UV
Dubai's outdoor environment, summer temperatures of 40-50°C, a UV index above 11, and coastal humidity, means outdoor signage needs marine-grade aluminium, weatherproof enclosures, and anti-UV coatings to last. We specify materials to this standard on every outdoor brief.

Our Process
How We Design Signage. From Site Brief to Fabrication File
Every signage project at Crafixx follows a structured process, from site information capture through multi-script artwork to fabrication-ready file delivery.
We start with the information that determines everything else: the location, the dimensions of the sign zone, the landlord or authority whose approval is required, the fabrication material, and the timeline. Without this, we are guessing. With it, every design decision is grounded in the physical reality of the space and the constraints of the permit process.
Using the brief, we develop 2–3 distinct design directions, each showing a different approach to layout, typography, colour, and the balance between scripts. Concepts are presented in context, mounted on photographs or technical renders of the actual location, so you can evaluate them at the correct scale and in the correct environment.
The approved concept moves into full artwork production. Typography is set in both scripts with correct weight, spacing, and hierarchy. Colour values are confirmed. Every element is drawn as a scalable vector. Dimensions are checked against the site brief. The second-script layout is developed in parallel, not translated afterward, so all language versions are ready for review at the same time.
Each script is laid out as a full parallel design, not a translation appended to the primary layout. We review reading flow and direction, letter spacing, relative typographic weight, and visual balance across the full sign. If the sign is a multi-language panel, the language zones are designed to carry equal visual weight and hierarchy, meeting landlord compliance requirements and the expectations of every audience
Up to two rounds of revisions are included in our standard signage design scope. Revisions are communicated through annotated PDF feedback, you mark what to change, we update the artwork. A version record is maintained throughout so there is no ambiguity about what was approved at each stage.
The final deliverable is a production package: vector file in Illustrator and CorelDRAW formats, fonts outlined, colours referenced, dimensions annotated, layers separated by production method. For projects requiring authority submission, the submission package is prepared alongside the production files. You can hand these files to any fabricator in Dubai, they will not need to request anything further.

Questions About Signage Design in Dubai
Ask Us Anything!
Crafixx designs shop fascia, indoor signage, wayfinding systems, office branding environments, vehicle wraps, construction hoardings, neon signs, 3D LED signage, backlit acrylic signage, and digital signage. We work across retail, corporate, hospitality, healthcare, and industrial sectors in Dubai and across the UAE, and every fabrication file is specified to be weatherproof and durable for the UAE's heat, humidity, and UV exposure.</p>
Every signage project at Crafixx is designed multi-language by default. Language versions are laid out in parallel from the concept stage, not added as a translation at the end. We handle direction-aware typography, letter spacing, and script weight matching so every language carries equal visual authority on the finished sign.</p>
Outdoor signage on buildings and on public-facing structures in Dubai typically requires Dubai Municipality (DM) approval before installation. The requirements include size limitations relative to the building facade, material specifications, and Arabic language inclusion. DM requirements differ from Free Zone authority rules and mall management board requirements. We design within the applicable constraints from the start and can prepare the submission artwork package for your signage contractor to submit.</p>
A fabrication-ready file is an artwork file formatted for production, not just approval. It includes vector artwork with all fonts converted to outlines, dimensions annotated in millimetres, Pantone or RAL colour references specified, bleed and trim marks set, and layers separated by production method (print, cut, engrave, vinyl, illumination). This is what your fabricator needs to go directly to production without requesting corrections.</p>
Yes. We have designed shop fascia for retail environments inside Dubai malls and on high-street retail frontages. Mall retail fascia projects involve working within the mall's brand compliance guidelines, permitted sign zones, approved materials, illumination restrictions, and submission procedures. We design within these constraints and prepare submission-ready artwork for the mall management board review.</p>
Wayfinding signage is a system of directional signs that helps people navigate through a building, campus, or large space. It includes primary directional boards at decision points, secondary signs at corridors and intersections, and tertiary identification signs on individual rooms and areas. We design wayfinding systems for commercial towers, hospitals, hotels, educational campuses, and industrial facilities in the UAE, covering icon design, typographic hierarchy, colour coding, and multi-language layouts.</p>
Yes. Office branding signage includes reception feature walls, directional boards, meeting room identification, branded glass partitions, floor plans, and motivational wall graphics. We work from existing brand guidelines or develop a signage language as part of the project. We have designed office interiors for businesses in Business Bay, DIFC, JLT, and Dubai Internet City.</p>
Vehicle wrap design is the creation of branded graphics applied to the exterior of cars, vans, trucks, or buses. We design wraps using accurate vehicle contour templates, positioning all brand elements, logos, contact details, brand messages, and background patterns, to avoid seams, curves, door handles, and windows. Final files are delivered in the format required by the wrap applicator, with bleed, overlap measurements, and panel splits specified.</p>
Timeline depends on scope: a single sign concept, a full wayfinding system, and a multi-location rollout each carry different schedules, and revision rounds add time. Projects requiring Dubai Municipality or mall management approval have additional time requirements driven by the authority's review timeline, which is outside our control.</p>
To start a signage brief, we need: the location and type of signage (indoor/outdoor, illuminated/non-illuminated), the dimensions of the sign zone or available space, the fabrication material if already decided, the authority whose approval is required (DM, mall management, Free Zone), your existing brand assets (logo in vector format, brand guidelines if available), and your installation deadline. The more information you provide at brief stage, the fewer revision rounds are needed.</p>
Yes. We design construction site hoardings for project launches, retail fit-outs in progress, and building developments in Dubai. Hoarding designs typically include the project name and developer branding, a project visual or render, contact and sales information, and messaging designed for the viewing context, pedestrian or vehicular traffic, viewing distance, and ambient lighting. Files are delivered at print-ready resolution for large-format output.</p>
Yes. We design neon and LED signs for cafes, restaurants, boutiques, gyms, and entertainment venues across Dubai. Neon sign designs are delivered with the fabricator's wire routing and mounting points considered. LED channel letter designs include letter profiles, back-box specifications, and LED module configuration notes so the fabricator has a complete production brief.</p>
Signage design fees in Dubai vary based on the number of sign types, the complexity of the multi-script layout, the number of locations, and whether authority submission artwork is required. A single shop fascia, a full office branding package, and a vehicle wrap each carry different scopes. Contact us with your project brief for a specific quote.</p>
